Audible Magic Enhances RepliCheck™ Content Identification Service to Include Software Titles

LOS GATOS, California — October 29, 2002 — Audible Magic Corporation, a leading provider of content management and media information services, today announced an enhancement of its RepliCheck™ service for the media replication industry. RepliCheck 2.0 provides media replicators with an automated tool to review incoming projects for software piracy. In addition to its existing ability to verify over 3.4 million copyrighted songs, Replicheck 2.0 identifies over 10,000 PC applications from over 1,000 software companies. This includes nearly all major and specialty software titles in use today, with new titles added on an on-going basis. With the ability to identify both songs and software titles, Replicheck 2.0 is the only comprehensive content verification solution available to media replicators.

“RepliCheck is the most accurate automated song identification system available, and it has been a helpful tool in the audio portion of our anti-piracy program here at Disc Makers” said Paul Kott, Anti-Piracy Compliance Screener. “We’re looking forward to the ROM identification capabilities planned by Replicheck, and hope that these new functions will enhance even more our existing anti-piracy program.”

Installed on a PC, Replicheck 2.0 can scan a master disc on a CD, hard drive, or other storage media. The program generates a digital fingerprint for each software application on the disc, and references these fingerprints over the Internet against Audible Magic’s reference database. If a copyright match is found, RepliCheck returns the title, publisher, version and copyright date of the application. The service immediately generates a report that can be matched against a customer’s copyright license.

“We believe the replication industry wants to do the right thing when it comes to anti-piracy, and this is a broad and highly accurate solution that enables replicators to do just that,” said Vance Ikezoye, founder and CEO of Audible Magic. “This automates what has been an error-prone, manual process, providing replicators with much better proof of copyright compliance in much less time.”

Replicheck 2.0 identifies copyrighted songs in a similar manner and reports song title, label, artist and copyright date for each file. Audible Magic’s reference database, one of the largest in the world, covers the entire North American catalog and is constantly updated with new releases.

Price and Availability

Replicheck 2.0 will be available in December, with beta tests in November. Pricing for RepliCheck 2.0 will be on a subscription basis based on volume. The service requires Windows 2000 or Windows XP computer and an Internet connection. The first release will cover PC software. Mac software will be added in a later release.
